Raising a new generation of social entrepreneurs

Aiming towards empowering youth and helping them become leaders able to transform their communities through innovative solutions, DOT Lebanon delivers digital and social entrepreneurship training programs enabling participants to kick start social enterprises with a mission to resolve economic, educational, environmental and other social challenges.

For the second year in a row, and following its youth’s success in 2018, DOT Lebanon partnered with the United Nations Development Program in Lebanon (UNDP Lebanon) for the fifth edition of the Youth Leadership Program (YLP5). A program aiming to help young women and men implement creative innovations serving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)

The Social Entrepreneurship Training delivered by DOT Lebanon during the YLP5 is an upgraded curriculum enhancing youth’s abilities through several topics such as Ideation, Social Entrepreneurship, Market study, Budgeting, Research, Pitching and Presentation. Thanks to this training, participants were able to build business models for their ideas.

This program targeting Lebanese youth shortlisted a list of ideas answering the project’s mission. Selected youth were therefore trained to transform their ideas into effective projects. They were excited about the different sessions and competed to creatively pitch their projects in front of a jury of professionals.

The impact of YLP was amazing this year. Seeing youth coming up with ideas to improve society and pitching them in a very professional and convincing way gave me a lot of hope for a better future. Said Marwa Harb, DOT Lebanon’s Trainer at the YLP5

Malak Bazzi and Haitham Dbouk, 2 youths from DOT Lebanon’s training program headed to the finals during the pitching session and were selected to participate in the YLP Regional workshop that took place in Jordan and lasted for 4 days. During this workshop, they’ve had the chance to join panels discussing a variety of topics such as the barriers and opportunities that impact the journey of social entrepreneurs. They’ve also met entrepreneurs and investors who shared with them tips and recommendations to get funds and improve their ideas.

Both youths presented projects in line with the SDGs and offered innovative solutions to their community.

Serving the Quality Education goal, Red bee is a project presented by Malak Bazzi to connect bullied children to social workers at schools through a wristband. Activated through a button press, the social worker will get notified of any bullying attempts against children who might be afraid of speaking up.

The training with DOT Lebanon was phenomenal, energizing, bringing lots of knowledge, being fully practice-oriented, they guided me and cleared all my queries which helped me succeed. I’m so happy for being part of this family. Said Malak at the end of her pitch.

Whilst Hathaim Dbouk worked on ensuring clean water and sanitation and presented WasteWater Solar Treatment. A sustainable and eco-friendly solution aiming towards treating water to make it safe for irrigation.

DOT Lebanon trainers were supportive all over the YLP journey, and they were always available for any recommendation and advice. It was my great pleasure to be among this group! Said Haitham after being nominated among the winners.

DOT Lebanon believes in the importance of reaching the SDGs by 2030. That’s why the learning and technology experts continuously work on upgrading the social entrepreneurship training programs to better answer the evolving society and its challenges.
